2024 Workshops are now live!

I am teaching two printing workshops in 2024 with Maine Media Workshops, including one brand new one! In July I’m teaching my traditional printing course, The Craft and Art of the Fine Digital Print, and at the end of September/beginning of October, I’m teaching a brand new course called Mastering the Fine Digital Print. This new course is more advanced, covering many topics we do not have time to cover in the first workshop, and the first workshop (or equivalent experience) is thus required to take the advanced course.

And coming up even sooner, I have the next iteration of my Photography and Environmental Advocacy online course starting in just a few weeks on February 6th, 2024!

New Printing Workshop

Because of a waitlist on my workshop that completed last week, we’ve decided to add a new session of my fine art printing workshop at Maine Media from October 30th-November 3rd, 2023. Please follow the link for more information and to register.

Creative Destruction

I’m excited to announce that I’m part of a paired solo exhibition at Garage Gallery in Beacon, NY, with an opening reception this coming Saturday from 4-7 pm. The exhibition, entitled Creative Destruction, pairs destroyed (and non-destroyed) work from my series The Anthropocene Surveys with the wonderful work of Caroline Burton. The exhibition runs from June 10th-25th on weekends. I look forward to seeing the exhibition on the walls this weekend at the opening reception!

New session of Photography and Environmental Advocacy Workshop!

We’ve scheduled a new session of my new Photography & Environmental Advocacy workshop this summer…it will happen over five Tuesday afternoons, August 1st, 8th, 15th, 29th and September 19th. Find out more and sign up at the link, and please let me know if you have any questions! We did tweak the timing to allow for my time between the last classes to allow people to work more on their projects between classes.

2023 Workshops

I have three workshops scheduled with Maine Media in 2023 that have been announced (plus one more in the works!). I’m particularly excited about my brand new workshop, Photography and Environmental Advocacy, which launches February 28th. The online workshop runs Wednesday afternoons (1-4 pm Eastern) for five weeks (March 1st-March 29th). You can find out more and register here.

I’m also teaching my long-time workshops in-person, with The Craft and Art of the Fine Digital Print happening in July and The Sense of Wonder in September.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Annals of the Former World Exhibition Update

I’ve been so grateful for the reaction to my current exhibition at Cove Street Arts, and I wanted to share a few links about it here. First, the gallery has a great new page that includes everything in the show. They also created a video showing the exhibition, too.

The always-useful resource What Will You Remember? features this exhibition in this month’s recommended exhibitions in the New England area.

And I love the review of the exhibition by Edgar Allen Beem in the Portland Phoenix recently, too.

The exhibition will be up through September 24th, 2022, so there is still time to see it if you haven’t yet!

Annals of the Former World at Cove Street Arts

My Annals of the Former World project is on exhibition at Cove Street Arts in Portland, Maine through September 24th, 2022. There is an opening reception this coming Thursday, August 11th, from 5-7 pm, and I will of course be making the journey down.

The exhibition is based on my handmade artist book and basically includes all of the photographs from the book (with the exhibition curated by Bruce Brown). You can view and purchase a copy of the book at the exhibition as well.

I haven’t seen this exhibition on the walls yet myself so I greatly look forward to seeing it on Thursday. I hope to see many of you there!

(btw, this exhibition plus many others in New England are included on the essential What Will You Remember? blog).

One of my new photographs has been included in the Griffin Museum of Photography’s 28th Annual Members Juried Show that just opened. There is an opening this coming Sunday, July 10th, from 4-6 pm at the main gallery in Winchester, MA. I’ll be there and hope to see some of you there! The exhibition runs until September 4th as well.

This is the first public exhibition of work from my new Memory of Nature project and I can’t wait to see it on the wall.

I’ve excited to announce my newest project, entitled The Memory of Nature. This project is the next iteration of my broader Annals of the Former World project focused on combating climate change. Here is a short description:

In the newest part of this project, entitled The Memory of Nature, I photograph landscapes threatened by climate change and then burn prints of these photographs, creating an entirely new work scarred by the effects of fire, the funeral pyre of the the Anthropocene. Fire was the critical tool in the creation of our current civilization, and its unfettered use will perhaps be its downfall.

Please take a look if you are interested and let me know what you think!

Maine Media Book Artist-in-Residence 2022 Open for Applications

As the most recent recipient of the Book Artist-in-Residence award from Maine Media, I can highly recommend this to those interested in the book arts. Applications are due June 1st.

The award was very important to me as it started me on what I hope is a long journey of practicing the book arts. My time in the studio, and the guidance of Richard Reitz Smith, essentially taught me how to make a book. You can find out more about the book I created during the residency here (and if you’d like to see it in person, please contact me).

Our Maine at the Maine Art Gallery

I’m honored to be included in the new exhibition at the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset. The exhibition, entitled “Our Maine”, includes the works of Lisa Mossel Vietze, Olga Merrill, the late Terry Hire, as well as my work. There are over 90 photographs featured in the exhibition, and as someone who has seen all of the work before, I can vouch for how beautiful it is.

I’ll be at the opening reception this Saturday from 4-7 pm, and hope to see you there!
